On the morning of July 16, 2008, we made our way to Disney's Beach Club Resort for an 8:30am reservation for the character breakfast at Cape May Café.
Breakfast at the Cape May Café is served buffet style and includes enough variety for everyone in the family to be happy. There is a bread station with various breads and bagels with the usual spreads and a few toasters. The buffet itself is one large square with 4 serving stations. Two of the serving stations serve the same hot entrees which during our visit included, scrambled eggs, a cheese and vegetable omelet, which tasted much better than it looked, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, sausage-gravy and biscuits, grits, pancakes, and a blintz of the day (raisin in our case), One of the remaining serving stations offered chilled fruit, yogurt, as well as dry cereals. The fourth serving station offered assorted pastries, croissants, warm cinnamon buns, and a children’s section stocked with Mickey waffles and breakfast pizza. Beverages are included in the breakfast price and include the usual breakfast beverage variety.
Our server was mediocre at best. He just didn’t have much of a personality. Although he did come by to take our plates once, that was the only time we saw him other than when he presented our bill.
Now onto the characters since after all, this was a character breakfast. During our meal, we were visited by Goofy, Minnie, and Chip. They spent enough time at the table to sign our daughter’s autograph book and take a few pictures. We had finished breakfast and were waiting for a visit from Dale when our server came over to tell us that we only got to see one of the two chipmunks - either Chip or Dale - and we had already seen Chip. I’ve never experienced that before. Chip and Dale are always together. Maybe because it was summer and they were trying to accommodate more guests that they cut one of the character visits from the experience. Although not a huge deal to my daughter, we did feel a little let down.
Overall, and given this is a character meal, breakfast was relaxed and the food very good. We were a little disappointed with our server. In fairness, this was my fourth breakfast at the Cape May Café within the last two years and all of my previous servers were very good. If you are staying in the Epcot resort area and are looking for a character breakfast to start your day, breakfast at the Cape May Café is a pretty solid choice.
